State pays $225,000 to settle lawsuit in murder of inmate with cinder block

The state prison system is paying $225,000 to the mother of an inmate beaten to death by a killer who later fatally strangled another inmate aboard a prison bus. The Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, without admitting fault, agreed last week to pay the amount to settle a wrongful-death lawsuit filed by Eugenia Wade over the death of her son, Luther Wade.
